Today (apparently) is the feast day of St Frideswide and, by coincidence, I found myself in the cathedral where she’s commemorated in a series of amazing stained glass windows. It’s just that there’s something in the background of this scene that really shouldn’t be there.

Do you mean the apparent flushing toilet? Right next to the dresser, too. Modern building regulations would never allow it!
Well spotted – that’s exactly what it is – seems that the windows were designed in the same year as the modern flushing toilet was introduced to a grateful nation. Don’t know about the building regs.: after all, the Government is cutting back on bureaucracy – tho agree that this may be a cut too far.
