I’ve latched on to the University Parks as an ideal place to hone my photographic skills. As well as trees, rivers and bridges, there are also plenty of birds, whilst the presence of sports fields gives scope for colour and action.

I’m not sure why, but I especially like the pictures of the crow – perhaps it’s the contrast between the black and the white – or perhaps it’s just that I have a soft spot for these intelligent birds. I’m looking forward to being able to contrast the winter pics with spring ones!
Simple monochromatic images in colour photos can be surprisingly effective – a case of “less is more”.
I watched this particular bird pecking through the ice for quite a while, but couldn’t work out whether he(she?) was after water or whether there was something edible in the pond water below the ice – either way, it suggests intelligence or,at the very least, an enquiring mind.
