“Yellow lines work to be finished off and more news” was the eye-grabbing headline rushed to my inbox this morning from the urgent presses of the Oxford Mail.

Not quite “Fish bites man”, “Academics in spelling row” or – (my  favourite example of the sub-editors’s art) “Archbishop joins nuns in pub fight”.

You’ve got to give it to them, though, it takes a special kind of courage to put that sort of thing on your front page. If that doesn’t show ISIS that we are determined to defend our British way of life at any cost, then I don’t know what will.
