Sod’s Law. You spend ages lovingly crafting your flagship New Year blog about notebooks and have to fall back on Microsoft clip art to illustrate it because you haven’t got any suitable pics and it’s late so you don’t want to start digging out notebooks and scanning them etc. etc. then you wander into a shop (Tiger – new and deeply fashionable Danish import aka “Posh Poundland”) and you can’t move for notebooks.
Or candles. Or boxing gloves.
Or banana-shaped pencil cases. How did I ever live without a banana-shaped pencil case?
I recently turned out the daily note book I kept when working for British Railways Architects’ Department in Marylebone circa. 1983/4.
Two things stood out: (a) how beautiful my handwriting was then, all fountain pen & blue ink and (b) how enthusiastic I was about my new career. The notebook had to be submitted as evidence of practical training before I got my RIBA. I kept notebooks when I was undertaking my Duke of Edinborough Award (never completed alas) and Geography field trips in Yorkshire. Good things, notebooks. Paloma has dozens, all shapes and sizes.
