Where was your urban deer (or is it a secret) ?
We have suburban deer in Hedge End (commuters from the New Forest)? . I encountered mum & baby in the little dipping pond in the church yard at St John’s one dusk time. The previous rector used to disturb them in his garden on his way to morning prayer.

It was in a field behind the churchyard – the land belongs to Magdalen College, so I think that it is one of their herd (you are a leading educational institution so you have to have all the things that go with that – world class academics, first class library, children’s choir, herd of deer …).
There were actually two deer.which I initially took to be mother and baby, but realized that the smaller one was a muntjak. If this is part of the Magdalen herd then I think it’s a roe deer. You do see them from time to time – sometimes whole families – but this is the first time I’ve managed to get a photo.
