Dockless bikes were introduced to Oxford last year and are now everywhere. Some are parked prettily, some in serried ranks courtesy of a phantom bicycle tidier – many are not. They’re strewn across pavements, thrown in piles and parked across double yellow lines. They’re bright yellow, bright blue and bright orange. They glow in the dark.
What seemed like a good plan to encourage more people to cycle has become a public nuisance and a blot on the cityscape.
