It came about by accident – as many good ideas do. I’d been taking photos on my daily walk, but as the walks tend to cover the same few routes, I was running out of subjects. Then, a couple of weeks ago, I had the idea of a daily theme. I’ve been sharing a few of these each day with Facebook friends, but have neglected those of you who don’t subscribe to that particular social platform and live a life devoid of amusing videos of cats.
So, last Thursday, I had to post a letter and to make sure that it got into the system, I walked to the main post office in the centre of town. This suggested a postal theme – letter boxes, post boxes, post offices, former letter boxes, former post offices and buildings that I was fairly sure were former post offices …
You can see them on Flickr (you don’t need an account) – Day 24 – Going Postal
St Aldates, surely the most impressive posting box in the UK? Almost a temple to mail,

Brilliant! Great set of photos. Particularly like the post box on wall with bike wheel in left corner and the wonky numbers on the green front door letterbox.
I also was going to say the photo with the bike wheel was nicely done. They all had a story to tell of their own. Very enjoyable.
Have you thought about taking photos of the architects markering on buildings.
I hadn’t noticed the bike wheel – there were two pictures of the same style of postbox and I chose one arbitrarily. It’s just very difficult to take photos in Oxford without bikes in them, but I agree that it counterbalances the solidity and squareness (oblongness?) of the postbox..
