Tuesday’s walk was around the theme of “critters”, with mixed results.
Part of the problem is that many of the critters are too far away (the magpies), too fast (orange-tipped butterflies and midges) or too elusive (most songbirds). In fact, I did better with lions than songbirds.
Some creatures were simply missing. There were no squirrels to be seen – but they may have simply been hiding in the trees. More worrying was the absence of seagulls on the main stretch of the Thames and swans, especially a pair of swans which are a regular sight on the side channels and drainage ditches.
Maybe the lions ate the all swans.
